These are the two builders most people actually end up choosing between, and they're philosophical opposites wearing similar marketing. Wix is a form you fill out that becomes a website. Framer is a design tool that publishes. Everything below follows from that one difference. I run with Framer myself, picked after a real redesign project, and this page gives Wix its honest due anyway.

Where Wix genuinely wins
Hand-holding and breadth. Nothing in Wix's editor requires you to understand layout; every feature a small business ever asks for exists as an app you switch on; and a truly non-technical owner can maintain it from a phone without breaking anything. If the person running the site finds design tools stressful rather than empowering, Wix is not a compromise, it's the correct answer, and the extra $7 a month is what that answer costs.
Wix also wins on two limits that only show up later. It does not cap your pages the way Framer Basic does at 30, and it does not charge per collaborator. If your site will grow past a few dozen pages, or more than one person will edit it, Wix's $17 and Framer's $10-plus-$20-a-seat stop being the comparison they look like on the pricing pages.
Where Framer wins, and why it's my pick
Output and honesty. A Framer site looks like you hired someone, because the editor thinks in design rather than in widgets, and the AI drafts inherit that. The pricing has no games: free means a real free tier, $10 means $10, and the custom domain is included. And when my own redesign project needed a non-technical partner to edit safely, Framer's editor passed that test with a ceiling Wix can't reach. Full story in the Framer review.
The decision, compressed
Choose Wix if you want the gentlest possible tool, a giant app drawer, more than 30 pages, or several editors, and you accept paying more for a site that looks like a template. Choose Framer if you can spend one afternoon on the learning curve in exchange for a better-looking site at nearly half the monthly price, and your site fits inside 30 pages. If you're still stuck, the tiebreaker is the free tiers: build the same page in both this weekend and notice which one you're still opening on Sunday.
