Static hosting with drag-and-drop deploys, forms, and HTTPS included. Every site in my portfolio runs on it.
Use it when
You want a site live in the time it takes to drag a folder into a browser window, with no build pipeline and no server to patch.
The catch
It moved to a credit system: 300 credits a month free, where a production deploy costs 15 and bandwidth runs 20 credits a gigabyte. For one small site that is effectively unlimited. If you deploy constantly or run several sites off one account, do the arithmetic before you assume free means free. The next tier is $9 a month for 1,000 credits.
Where it sits in the stack
Netlify is filed under “Where the site actually lives” in the stack directory. Its label there is the same one at the top of this page: i run this, meaning this is first-hand rather than read off a pricing page.
What has changed about its pricing
Every price on this site carries the date it was checked. These are the entries in the change log that name Netlify, newest first, including anything I got wrong about it.
The free tier is a 300-credit monthly budget, not an unmetered allowance
Netlify's free plan runs on credits: 300 a month, where a production deploy costs 15 and bandwidth costs 20 per gigabyte. Whether this replaced an older unmetered free tier or had been in place for some time is not established, because this was the first reading taken here. Flagged as a first observation rather than a change for that reason.
The alternatives in the same slot
These do the same job and sit in the same section of the directory.
- Cloudflare Pages — listed, not tested, has a free tier
- GitHub Pages — listed, not tested, has a free tier
- Neocities — listed, not tested, has a free tier
The whole stack, filterable, with the catch stated on every entry.
